Investment into vulnerable children ‘welcomed’

Those working for charities have welcomed proposals by the government to create a "safety net" to help the thousands of children who run away, it has emerged.

In news that might interest people seeking social care jobs, children’s secretary Ed Balls is to announce a three-pronged strategy into helping young people, which includes Safe Places - which reviews how local authorities can provide protected areas for runaways to stay.

Investment to be made in disadvantaged families

Local services are to receive a multimillion pound investment into improving support for disadvantaged and vulnerable people, it has emerged.

Ed Miliband - cabinet minister responsible for addressing social exclusion - and Beverley Hughes, the minister of Children, Young People and Families, have announced that some £16 million is to be invested into a series of pilot Family Pathfinders.

“Distinctive” Welsh social care sector emerging

Care and social services in Wales have improved, a new report reveals.

In the first annual study by the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW), such services were reported to have increased over the course of 2006-07.

It was suggested that such developments have been "underpinned" by enhanced performance management, new improvement capacity and clear political leadership.

West Berkshire council ‘making continuous improvements’

West Berkshire council has been commended for continued improvements in the standard of services it delivers to local residents.

A report from the Audit Commission makes clear that the council has worked well with its network partners in recent years and has broadly succeeded in its effort to supply West Berkshire residents with "high quality services".

Warrington council ‘addressing community responsibility well’

Warrington council is providing a good service to its residents, a new Audit Commission report reveals.

According to the commission, those operating for the public sector body are offering good outcomes for children and young people, news that may interest people seeking social work jobs and those looking to hire such candidates through a regional recruitment portal.
