Financial investment announced for health and social care sector

Those people working for voluntary and community care organisations may be set to benefit from a multimillion pound financial boost, it has been revealed.

Earlier today (April 2nd), care services minister Ivan Lewis announced that the department of health is to give some £7 million for local community projects which encourage people to volunteer within the health and social care sector as part of its Opportunities for Volunteering programme.

Social workers ‘are skilled and sought-after’

An increasing number of social workers are being employed by local authorities, new research shows.

Figures released by Community Care also reveal that those working in this area of the public sector are more likely to hold qualifications in relation to the field, with this partially attributed to the presence of a social work degree and increases in the availability of post-qualification training.

Yorkshire and Humber’s local govt lead the way

Yorkshire and Humber’s performance at the Local Government Chronicle Awards has been met with approval by local figures in the public sector.

The ceremony, which saw 17 national awards handed out at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, proved to be a positive night for the public sector in Yorkshire and Humber, with a range of councils in the area performing well alongside Kirklees Council’s top award for being the best local authority in the country.

‘More should be done’ to support health care volunteers

‘Volunteer hubs’ should be created to help boost the role of those working as volunteers in the health and social care sector, it has been claimed.

In the Volunteering in the Public Services: Health and Social Care report by Baroness Julia Neuberger it was stated that statutory agencies should do more to help meet the costs of recruiting, screening and supporting volunteers.

Health and social care sector receive funding boost

Those working in the health and social care profession may be set to witness a funding boost for the organisations that they work for, it has been revealed.

An estimated £27 million is to be ploughed into social enterprises offering such services.
