Successful charities to receive commission funds

Charities which meet and exceed best practise criteria will now be able to apply for Charity Commission endorsement funds, the regulator has announced.

Plans have been set out in which the regulator will work with umbrella and membership charities to promote quality practice. (more…)

LGA chairman asks volunteers to speak out

Local Government Association chairman Lord Sandy Bruce-Lockhart has called upon members of the public sector to contribute to England’s largest ever volunteering consultation.

The Commission on the Future of Volunteering, of which Lord Bruce-Lockhart is a member, is engaged in laying out the long-term vision for the third sector in England and will use feedback to recommend how the landscape could be shaped over the next decade. (more…)

Government must work with charities to tackle terrorism

The government must work with the charitable sector in order to reduce the threat of terrorism, according to a report published by the UK’s leading charities.

Charities have a significant role to play in diverting vulnerable people from destructive paths, a responsibility underestimated by the government, according to the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) and other non-profit firms involved in the report.

Inquiry to evaluate growing importance of volunteers

An inquiry is being launched into the growing importance of charity and voluntary organisations in terms of providing public services.

Non-governmental third sector organisations are playing an increasingly important societal role, providing stiff competition for traditional private sector contractors and receiving more and more public commissions from the government.

Professionalism boosts volunteering sector

Adopting a corporate management style helps instil a professional air that benefits the volunteering sector, according to new research.

National development agency Volunteering England surveyed visitors to its website and found that seven in ten supported the introduction of a more professional ethos at volunteer organisations.
