Temporary, contract workers perform “crucial frontline roles”

Posted by del on May 18, 2010

People who are brought in on temporary or contract work perform "crucial frontline roles" in public sector jobs, according to one industry body.

Tom Hadley, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation’’s (REC) director of external relations, said the non-permanent workers are not just employed "on a whim".

He added: "Challenging pre-conceived ideas and off-the-peg solutions will play a key role in achieving sustainable reform, as well as lasting improvements in productivity and innovation."

His comments follow on from the REC’’s Public Sector Resourcing campaign, which believes there should be flexible staffing arrangements recognised as an important part of cost-effective resourcing strategies.

And it would like to see new skills implemented into public bodies, which could be good news for versatile individuals who are looking for a job in the sector.

The Confederation of British Industry recently announced that there will be a demand for skilled job seekers in the future.
