Medway council ”providing good regeneration service”

Posted in Local Govt, Planning on the May 22nd, 2009

Making effective use of land and resources is just one of the areas that a Kent-based local authority has been praised for.

An Audit Commission report has highlighted Medway council for having a "good" approach towards regeneration work, as those with local government jobs at the authority were commended for their work in environmental planning and physical regeneration.

It was also praised for managing to secure the investment it requires to deliver ambitious regeneration programmes.

Consequently, the public sector body was given two stars out of a possible three and was highlighted as having "promising" prospects for making further improvements.

Furthermore, the council was deemed to be taking effective measures in closing the gap between levels of educational attainment for those living in Medway and the rest of the region.

Commending the waterfront developments for helping to boost the quality of the local area, senior manager at the Audit Commission Claire Bryce-Smith claims "the council is working well to deliver real improvements for local people in Medway, including some of the more deprived communities".

Last month, the commission praised Isle of Wight council for working well with other agencies with regards to countryside management and regeneration projects.
