Employers (and recruiters -agencies et al)seem incapable of seing just how transferable skills are.

They are all stuck well and truly inside the box.  You either have a particular career path or not. End of.

Apart from people like myself finding it ever harder to find challenging and appropriate work, organiations and companies are really losing out.</description>
