Voluntary fundraisers ”do vital work but need more support”

Posted in Charity on the November 20th, 2008

Those working as volunteer fundraisers need more support, a new study reveals.

Research carried out the Institute of Fundraising indicates that about nine out of ten (89 per cent) of charities believe that these voluntary workers are either important or very important to their organisation.

It was also showed that such fundraisers have generated more than £100,000 in income each year for over a quarter of the third sector organisations surveyed.

However, over 80 per cent of charities do not think the full potential of volunteer fundraisers is currently being met, while less than half of those questioned have a specific budget allocated for investment in volunteer fundraising - in news that could interest those workers looking to improve their skills framework.

Megan Pacey, director of policy and campaigns for the Institute of Fundraising, said: "It is vital to the sector’’s health and future that volunteer fundraising activity receives the same investment, support and recognition as other volunteering activities."

She added that voluntary fundraisers help to bring in "significant income, resources and knowledge to an organisation".

In other news, those working for third sector bodies in Newark were recently invited by the Futurebuilders England to attend a training session, offering guidance on how to successfully bid for public service contracts.
