Those working for a public sector body in south London are providing an effective service, it has been stated.

In a report, the Audit Commission claims that Sutton council is performing strongly, with the local authority commended in a number of areas.

One of these is its operations with network partners, that are said to have helped reduce levels of crime in the borough, making it one of the safest in the capital.

Furthermore, the local authority was highlighted for making progress in increasing the supply of housing and achieving good outcomes for children and young people in the area.

Howard Simmons, senior manager for the Audit Commission, said: "Sutton council is performing strongly. Strong leadership is provided at both political and managerial levels to address national, regional and local agendas."

Meanwhile, the council was also reported to be providing a service that is responsive to the needs of its residents.

In August, the commission stated that Hillingdon borough council has "promising prospects" for achieving future improvements in terms of ensuring the safety of its residents.
