Recruitment Masterclass - Bringing in Fresh Talent
Disabled people of working age in the UK represent around 20% of all available talent. Less than half of this total are currently employed and at least one million of these are currently actively seeking work. This is not so much a dormant talent pool as an under utilised talent pool, and one that the public sector, in particular shouldn’t be ignoring.
Kate Headley, Director of the Clear Company and lead speaker at the Employers Forum on Disability’s Recruitment Masterclass workshop explained: “Consistently the recruitment of disabled talent is considered a major challenge. Our research concludes that this is not a simple case of employer brand or attraction strategy but is about employers’ competence when it comes to recruiting this rich pool of potential. We find that the barriers lie throughout the recruitment process, from poor job design, lack of flexibility and ill constructed assessment processes.”
Statistics released in the 2008 National Online Recruitment Audience Survey show that Jobsgopublic’s commitment, thanks to its software capabilities and online candidate attraction methods has been recognised by its target audience. The report finds that 6% of jobsgopublic jobseekers declare a disability, this is double the national average.
Richard Tyrie co-founder of Jobsgopublic said: “We are 100 per cent committed to playing a leading role in developing accessible services to all online jobseekers. In the increasingly competitive world of attracting and retaining talent we cannot afford to miss opportunities, simply because software processes present unnecessary barriers.
“As pioneers in the way organisations attract and retain the very best talent, we are about to launch the first ever bespoke online portal specifically designed to providing targeted access to disabled talent by disability confident employers. “
JGP the software arm of Jobsgopublic, have been active members of the Employers Forum on Disability and will be supporting the Recruitment Masterclass - Bringing in Fresh Talent. As software recruitment specialists JGP are actively encouraging organisations to review their recruitment and attraction methods in light of this potential pool of talent.
Kate Headley explains “…expertise will be shared at the masterclass – but the message will be clear, good recruitment practice is inclusive, get it right for disability and you will have the leading edge and an attractive and enviable approach.”
