Commission calls for more effective use of aid
Aid needs to be used more effectively by donor and developing countries, according to the European Commission (EC).
The EC stated on the eve of the High Level Ministerial Meeting in Accra/Ghana that governments need to make commitments to concrete and ambitious actions.
Sustainable efficiencies could also aim to ensure billions of people in poverty are impacted by aid.
In addition, they may prove to European taxpayers that their money is being spent well and is delivering results.
Commissioner responsible for Development and Humanitarian Aid Louis Michel commented: "It is now or never.
"Much more is still ahead of us. Now the challenge is to ensure this rhetoric is translated into practice on a wide scale."
This comes as the EU has provided €6 million (£4.87 million) in aid for those caught up in the conflict in South Ossetia as well as some parts of Georgia.
