Charities invited to apply for biodiversity funding

Posted in Charity/Voluntary on the August 6th, 2008

Those working for charities which support conservation and biodiversity are being invited to apply for financial assistance, it has been revealed.

GrantScape is to offer a total of £1.7 million for those projects which look to improve the quality of life for plants and animals, in addition to the ecosystems which they are a part of.

Some £1.3 million is being offered to large biodiversity projects across Britain, with the remaining £400,000 going to conservation organisations operating in Luton, Bedfordshire and inner London.

In receiving such monetary assistance it may be possible that charities are able to improve the skills framework of their operations.

Steven Hargreaves, chief executive of GrantScape, said: "We are passionate about conserving the UK’s biodiversity and are therefore delighted to confirm our continued commitment through our three new grant programmes."

The charity also reported that more than 100 species have disappeared from Britain over the past century.

In January it was revealed that the Energy Saving Trust provided guidance for charities operating in London in ways to fund environmentally-friendly projects.
