Hull council commended for community safety services
The community safety services provided by those working for Hull city council has received praise by the Audit Commission, it has been revealed.
In a report by the commission’s inspection team, the local authority was deemed as offering a "good" level of service in terms of reducing levels of crime across the city which are down by over 40 per cent from figures recorded in 2003-04.
Overall, the council was given a two-star rating and was stated as having potential for achieving further improvements.
Joanne McDonough, senior manager for the Audit Commission, praised the local authority’s operations with network partners.
She said: "The council and its partners have made great strides in recent years, which is good news for Hull and its people."
"Crime rates have fallen much faster than elsewhere thanks to good partnership working and to the contribution the council has made."
The council was particularly praised for cutting levels of environmental crime such as fly-posting and providing services for domestic violence victims.
In related news, the Audit Commission recently praised Bournemouth borough council for providing a high-quality range of environmental services.
