Olympic volunteers ‘need support’
More needs to be done to support those working as volunteers in London, it has been reported.
According to Volunteering England, the government should establish more centres - and offer greater amounts of funding to such initiatives - in order to ensure a diverse range of people are working in the voluntary sector for the 2012 Olympics.
Furthermore, it was claimed that recruitment efforts for volunteers should be stepped up in the approach to the London games.
Such news could be of interest to those looking for opportunities to work in the voluntary sector via a regional recruitment portal.
Justin Davis Smith, chief executive for Volunteering England, said: "We need to build on our country’s infrastructure of volunteer centres because they have the knowledge and experience in recruiting and supporting volunteers from all sections of society."
He added that the estimated 70,000 volunteers which are to be involved in the games should receive support to carry on such activities after the sporting event ends.
Last year, Social Enterprise London revealed that it is to offer those working for social enterprises advice on how to successfully bid for contracts in relation to the 2012 Olympics.
