Public sector IT ‘offering valuable services’

Posted in General on the May 14th, 2008

Those working for the public sector should be proud of their successes in relation to information technology, it has been stated.

According to the British Computer Society (BCS), IT within the public sector has examples of "excellent project and relationship management".

The society pointed towards Newcastle city council’s mobile working initiative and the new website by the National Assembly of Wales as instances of best practice within IT in the sector.

Elizabeth Sparrow, vice-president of external relations at the BCS, said: "These projects have proved their worth in the returns they have offered their communities and the professionalism with which they have been implemented."

Ms Sparrow added that such schemes indicated that both national and local IT programmes can offer members of the public effective and efficient services.

Such news could be of interest to those seeking jobs in the public sector via a regional recruitment portal.

Meanwhile, a recent study by CHA reveals that a third of people working in the private sector would consider making the switch to the public sector if such a move would mean that they do more worthwhile work.
