Social enterprise workers receive healthcare guidance

Posted in Social Work on the May 13th, 2008

Guidance to public sector healthcare procurement has been launched for those working for social enterprises, it has been revealed.

A part of its Enterprising Healthcare project, the advice - which was released by Social Enterprise London (SEL) - looks to assist such bodies in providing public social care and health services.

In addition, the initiative aims to encourage commissioners to consider working with groups operating within the third sector.

Lesley Miller, senior business manager and head of Enterprising Healthcare for the SEL, said: "Many social enterprises are already delivering contracts to the health sector very successfully and many more have the untapped potential to do so in the future."

Furthermore, the SEL pointed towards claims by the government that social enterprises can play a significant role in the developing of primary and community healthcare.

Such news may be of interest to those seeking social care jobs in the third sector via a regional recruitment portal.

Speaking in March, John Hutton, secretary of state for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, stated that the third sector plays a vital role in the delivery of commissioned public services, with social enterprises generating £27 billion in turnover each year.
