Camden council commended by Audit Commission

Those working for a public sector body in north London have been praised by the Audit Commission in a new report.

In the commission’s corporate assessment study Camden council was stated to be providing a strong level of leadership and being responsive to the needs and requirements of its residents.

Claire Bryce-Smith, senior manager at the Audit Commission, said: "Camden council is performing strongly. Councillors and officers are of a high calibre and managerial and political leadership is very effective."

In addition, the council was praised for working with network partners in reducing levels of anti-social behaviour and crime.

Furthermore, the local authority was stated as having "highly effective" environmental services and taking steps to improve the health of its residents.

Recently, the north-west town of St Helens was praised by the commission for its work in reducing inequalities for deprived sectors of the community.
