Audit Commission praises St Helens council ‘for strong leadership’
St Helens council has been the latest local authority to be praised by the Audit Commission, it has been revealed.
In a new report by the commission those working for the north-west public sector body were commended for having an understanding of local people’s needs and working to reduce inequalities for deprived communities in the town.

Furthermore the council was praised for its work with network partners, including those from the voluntary and community sector, in attempting to deliver improvements across the town.
Peter Forrester, senior manager with the Audit Commission, said: "The council’s management ability is strong and it is showing effective community leadership."
In related news, the commission praised Leeds city council this month for helping to improve quality of life for its residents and providing an improved service since its last corporate assessment four years ago.
