Third sector ‘provides services other sectors cannot’

Posted in Charity/Voluntary on the May 2nd, 2008

The Welsh Assembly Government has commended the work of those operating for charities and voluntary groups, it has been revealed.

Speaking at an event highlighting the work of the third sector earlier this week, Dr Brian Gibbons, social justice minister, praised the work of the Community Foundation in Wales - an independent charity which distributes grants to other community groups and voluntary organisations throughout the region.

He said: "Voluntary and community organisations fashion the type of society we live in.

"They provide services that the public and private sectors often cannot."

Such news could be of interest to people seeking jobs in the public sector via a regional recruitment portal.

His comments come after the Assembly Government revealed a funding package for the Community Foundation in Wales worth a total of £184,000 lasting for three years.

In other news, it was recently revealed that a new forum in South Yorkshire will help to forge links between those working for charity and community groups across the county.
