Stockton council receive Audit’s praise

Posted in General on the April 22nd, 2008

Stockton-on-Tees council has been praised by the Audit Commission, it has been revealed.

In its latest report, those working for the public sector body were deemed to be offering a strong service which provides value for money and making progress in areas such as housing renewal and cutting crime.

Furthermore, it was stated that Stockton-on-Tees council had made significant improvements in the quality of life for the town during the last three years.

Commenting on the report, Steve Nicklin, senior manager with the Audit Commission, praised the council for its work with network partners - including those from the voluntary sector - in gaining an understanding of what their residents require.

He said: "The council’s management ability is strong and it is showing effective community leadership.

"This is producing improvements which local people notice, including progress in some of the borough’s most deprived areas."

Such news might be of interest to people seeking jobs in the public sector.

In March, the Audit Commission reported that South Cambridgeshire district council had made major strides in improving leadership and communicating with the public over the previous 12 months.
