Predictions for 2008 - Jobsgopublic Newsletter

Posted in Connect on the April 14th, 2008

So 2007 was the year of social networking, blogging and user generated content. We’ve seen Google, online gaming, Outlook, Flickr and Facebook showcase some of the best technologies on the web …. and all successes because no-one has radically challenged the way they do things. BUT! with technologies set to explode in 2008 these pioneers will have to raise the stakes, address Web 3.0 and rise to the challenge of keeping their market leading places.

What we’re talking here is the introduction of ultra thin think pads (check out Apples MacBook Air), i-phone style technologies, high quality internet speeds, internet TV etc… with this in mind it will be a case of re-building infrastructures to manage this and further attract the next generation and monetise it … not a small task for any small to medium sized organisations!

Internet TV
‘Must see’ Internet TV shows will emerge (from professional producers and creatives) which quickly move from cult to water-cooler awareness. These will drive online viewing of short-form premium video in general and establish it in the media mainstream for viewers and advertisers.

More distribution channels
Content owners will have increasing options to put their news or copy online and monetise it. Platforms, recruitment networks, search engines, social networks and peer to peer services will all offer attractive avenues to market. As a result users (candidates) will have more and easier ways to access relevant content so driving usage and ad inventory volumes.

Maturing market.. what does this mean to mean!
Yes, we are now in a world where we want to see a ROI when it comes to job listings and hiring. Following Google and its love of a Pay Per Click model we too will be joining the ranks of providing a ‘transactional model’ ….. Goodbye subscription and hello pay per hire!

Our Talent Update will begin to address the public sectors more ‘grown-up attitude to online recruitment’ and its development of shared services (leading to initial standardisation).

What we are experiencing here is an increased understanding of the internet as medium to attract and retain staff on a pay per hire basis and why not?
