Make way … here comes web 3.0

What will web 3.0 look like?

Given many of us have just gotten use to web 2.0 and its promotion of sharing and collaborating views, opinions and comments via blogs, wiki’s, tags and RSS feeds, del.icio.us and Flickr, MySpace, YouTube and Facebook it’s probably too early to say where we’ll go next but one thing is for sure we’re still to join the rest of the world when it comes to advances in mobile technologies.

For many, even Web 2.0 is still very much a work in progress. But it goes without saying that new Net technologies are always under development;inside universities, think tanks, and big corporations, as much as Silicon Valley start-ups and blogs are already abuzz with talk of the Web’s next generation.

Perhaps mass availability of broadband was the trigger to rolling out web 2.0 with the introduction of faster connectivity and as we get better at this perhaps web 3.0 will be specific to mobile devices as even faster speed transfers become possible and further optimised?

How long until we have virtual screens and keyboards?

This has surely got to be the start of web 3.0? Web browsing with 3D experience … bring it on! We know Web 2.0 was built towards the social side of the online world, so it must be time web 3.0 addressed monetising this for both the private and public sector industries.

Web 3.0 based applications are expected to be based on virtual reality locations where consumers can try anything. An example would be the Second Life, where more than 1 million players, including offline merchants participate. I can’t wait to try out my new shirt virtually!
