Social workers ‘are skilled and sought-after’
An increasing number of social workers are being employed by local authorities, new research shows.
Figures released by Community Care also reveal that those working in this area of the public sector are more likely to hold qualifications in relation to the field, with this partially attributed to the presence of a social work degree and increases in the availability of post-qualification training.
It was also revealed that vacancies across the differing areas of social work are often at their highest within the children’s services sector.
Such news may be of interest to those seeking jobs in the social work sector via a regional recruitment portal.
The publication claimed: “They [employees] are now more likely to be employed in social work activities in a professional capacity and be highly-skilled.”
Meanwhile, citing research carried out by the UK Voluntary Sector Workforce Almanac 2007 it was revealed that over half of those operating in the voluntary sector are employed in some kind of social work job.
Earlier this month, a report released by Baroness Julia Neuberger urged statutory agencies to do more to assist volunteers within the health and social care sector.
