New agency ‘to work with councils on homes’

Posted in Planning on the January 15th, 2008

The government has released more details of the work that the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) will carry out in delivering its promise of three million new homes to be built by 2020.

Combining English Partnerships, the Housing Corporation and delivery functions from the department of communities and local government to bring together expertise and resources, the HCA will work as a network partner with local councils on the delivery of housing and regeneration.

In addition, it will work with those working for the public sector bodies on the creation of some of England’s ten new eco-towns.

The announcement could interest people looking for planning jobs in the public sector and those organisations aiming on using a regional recruitment portal to attract these type of candidates.

Yvette Cooper claimed that the HCA will have a vital role in delivering the new homes and community infrastructure that the government has promised, so “bringing together land, money and skills to build more homes and regenerate communities”.

She said: “This important new agency will be able to work closely with local councils to support them in their wide range of housing, regeneration and community work.”

Meanwhile, Ieuan Wyn Jones, deputy first minister for Wales, claimed that the building of affordable homes “is a priority for the Assembly government”.
