Affordable housing ‘priority for Wales’

Posted in Planning on the January 11th, 2008

A new property development in North Wales points the way towards affordable housing as a whole, the deputy first minister for the province has claimed.

Speaking at the site in Bron Bethel, Rachub, Bethesda, Ieuan Wyn Jones claimed that the nine homes, which are aimed at families, will help to combat the lack of good-quality housing available to buy or rent in the principality.

The properties were built by North Wales Housing Association on land leased from Gwynedd council.

He said: "Increasing the provision of affordable housing is a priority for the Assembly government."

Mr Jones also commended the operation of network partners between the assembly, housing association and the local authority in completing the project.

"This is an excellent example of what can be achieved through cooperation," he stated.

He went on to point towards the One Wales policy document, which includes a commitment to affordable new housing - news that might interest people seeking planning jobs.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that a number of planning proposals across Scotland were put forward as part of the National Planning Framework to drive economic growth, promote improved opportunities and support sustainable energy development.

Proposed developments include redeveloping Edinburgh and Glasgow airports and building a replacement Forth crossing.
