Blackburn’s Supporting People programme praised
Blackburn council’s multimillion pound Supporting People programme has recently been praised by the Audit Commission, it has emerged.
In a report by the commission, the local authority’s £6 million initiative was described as "good" with "promising" prospects for future improvements.
Consequently, those working for the public sector body received a two-star rating.
Paul Clarke, lead housing inspector for the Audit Commission in the north-west, said: "The Supporting People programme has made a significant difference to the lives of vulnerable people in the area."
He added: "Strong leadership ensures that the programme is well supported by partners and integrated with other services for vulnerable people."
The council was especially praised for its "strong relationships" with its network partners, in news that may be of interest to those seeking social work jobs.
In addition, the local authority was commended for providing easy access to services and advice.
Last month, it was revealed that the commission granted Kent county council’s Supporting People programme two stars.
