Callcutt review ‘could prompt improvements in planning’

Posted in Housing, Planning on the November 23rd, 2007

A major new drive to spur on the development of green housing throughout the UK has been launched by government department communities and local government.

In news likely to be of interest to those seeking housing jobs, Yvette Cooper has received the Callcutt review on green house delivery positively.

The housing minister considered that the housebuilding industry and its network partners could benefit from the report’s findings, which she said would improve the planning applications system.

By streamlining this process it is hoped that the sector will be able to move ahead with rapid expansion.

"We are looking at what changes could be made to the planning system to make sure that developers really are making a substantial start on their projects," Ms Cooper advised.

"We also want to stamp out any potential for hidden land banking by making sure that land assets are completely transparent in financial statements."

Earlier this month, Ms Cooper announced the publication of a new bill of interest to those in housing and planning jobs, intended to aid the drive for three million more affordable homes by 2020.
