Birmingham social enterprise ‘helping to change lives for the better’
Residents in the West Midlands could be on track to receive a skills and employment boost, after a social enterprise in the region received an investment from the government.
Birmingham-based Nechells Regeneration Project has received some £870,000 from Futurebuilders England to construct an ICT suite and a heritage workshop at its Grade II-listed Nechells Baths resource centre.
The investment will be put towards the project’s £6.2 million redevelopment of the facility.
Currently the centre offers English language courses, a cafe and children’s nursery for people with disabilities and the long-term unemployed, in news that could be of interest those seeking social care jobs and third sector bodies using regional recruitment portal to attract applicants.
Derek Inman, chief executive of Nechells Regeneration Project, said: "This project is addressing a vital need in an area which suffers from very high levels of unemployment and deprivation."
Richard Gutch, chief executive of Futurebuilders England, added that the social enterprise is helping in "empowering people to change their lives for the better".
Earlier this year, research from the Mandis/Adecco Job Creation Index revealed that an "excellent" number of health and social care jobs were created in September.
