Charity-focused television station to be launched
A new Sky TV channel that will dedicate its airtime to those working for charities and non-governmental organizations (NGO) is set to be launched.
The project is the brainchild of a former trucking company boss who decided to setup NGO TV after volunteering to send vehicles to Pakistan following the earthquakes which hit the country in 2005, according to Third Sector.
Shahbaz Sarwar, the former owner of truck fleet Arabian Sights, has said that he will be investing his own money in to the station and hopes that it will be gracing television screens by next June.
He illustrated how charities only got coverage when there was a disaster even though they worked tirelessly all year round.
"The work they do all year round doesn’t get a lot of exposure - we want to complete the picture by highlighting charities’ projects and the difficulties they face," he said.
Mr Sarwar has stated his hopes to become network partners with Sky and sign a deal that would see NGO TV become part of their programming content.
Earlier this month, the chief executive of the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action Kevin Curley stated that those working in the voluntary sector should collaborate with network partners so that they can compete with larger organisations from the private industry effectively.
