Changes made in planning rules for a number of boroughs
Planning rules have been made simpler in the three boroughs along the Fylde coast with a unified and comprehensive set of guidelines introduced to help process planning applications in the boroughs of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.
The decision taken by councillors this week is the latest example of a co-ordinated approach between the three network partners which lie next to each other on the Lancashire coast.
Planning applications for conservatories, dormers and roof extensions as well as many others will now be subject to the new unified guidelines, which are hoped to make the planning process clearer to the public.
Wyre’s head of planning, Garry Payne, explained how the previous sets of separate guidelines made way for major differences between the authorities.
"This was confusing for the public, for agents who represent clients living locally and for builders who work in all three areas."
Mr Payne confirmed that there was now "consistency" across the three boroughs which would eliminate confusion when applying for a house extension or alteration.
Earlier this week, the housing and planning minister Yvette Cooper launched an ideas competition to help develop the design standards for the UK’s proposed ten new eco-towns.
