“Excellent” number of social care jobs created

Posted in Social Work on the October 18th, 2007

An increasing number of jobs in the social care sector are being created, new figures indicate.

In the latest Mandis/Adecco Job Creation Index, more than 40,833 posts were opened across 21 of the country’s key industries over the course of last month - a rise of 20 per cent from September 2006.

Overall, some 740 health and social care jobs were created in September, a figure judged to be “excellent” and news which could well be of interest to those seeking work in the sector and public bodies aiming to make use of a regional recruitment portal in attracting such applicants.

Rene Schuster, chief executive of Adecco Group UK & Ireland, said: “We have seen a positive rise in job creation this month. Despite the credit crunch that is affecting City and financial jobs, a number of key sectors have shown strong efforts in job creation this month.”

The drive in jobs, including those in the public sector, comes despite the recent financial uncertainty witnessed within the stock market following the Northern Rock crisis.

Last month, Mike O’Brien, minister of work and pensions, welcomed an EU commitment of £2 billion aimed at boosting jobs and skills levels in England over the course of the next seven years.

Mr O’Brien suggested that the investment will help foster social cohesion and help people build up skills and get qualifications, in an announcement which was likely to be welcomed by those seeking social work jobs.
