In a seminar held by the Charity Commission, organisations working in the third sector, such as charities and not for profit bodies, are to be told that unless they focus on sustainable efficiencies they may risk damaging their reputations, reports the Third Sector.
According to a spokesperson for the regulator, the industry is seen as a ‘reference point’ for organisations promoting the environment.
In news of possible benefit to public sector bodies looking to make best use of sustainable efficiencies, the seminar will see them provided with tips on how to save energy and reduce waste.
John Merivale, grants officer for the City Bridge Trust, a grant-making charity that has carried out eco-audits among voluntary organisations, added that there was room within the third sector for organisations to be more environmentally-friendly.
Earlier this year, ethical investment research association Eiris launched a website intended to help charities reflect socially responsible ideals in their own objectives.
