Lewisham council praised by Audit Commission
Lewisham council is “performing strongly”, according to the latest report by the Audit Commission.
The news comes as the commission’s inspection team gave the authority four stars in its Corporate Assessment.
Praise was given to the public sector body for its work with network partners in helping to provide opportunities for its residents, particularly those from vulnerable sectors of society, news which may be useful to those seeking social work jobs.
Philip Johnstone, relationship manager for the Audit Commission, said: “Lewisham council is well led and making a real difference for its people and its area.
“It works particularly effectively to understand the needs of its diverse communities and young people and to make the most of opportunities, working closely with other public sector organisations.”
The council was also commended for operating with networks partners to create “opportunities to improve life chances” for young people.
Last week, the commission applauded Newcastle council’s Supporting People programme for providing the city’s vulnerable people with an ever-improving service.
