New public sector framework launched

Posted in Social Work on the October 10th, 2007

The government has declared a revised performance management framework which focuses on those working within the public sector, it has emerged.

Following yesterday’s pre-Budget report and Comprehensive Spending Review, there is now a “streamlined” set of 30 public service agreements (PSA).

Developed in consultation with delivery partners and those with jobs in the public sector, the PSAs are “underpinned” by a single Delivery Agreement which is to be shared across all contributing departments.

The scheme will see the launch of a PSA devoted to boosting the skills of all Britons, as part of moves to ensure “a world-class skills base by 2020″, news which could be welcomed by those looking to make use of skills frameworks in the workplace.

Meanwhile, a second PSA will focus on driving the country’s overall employment rate, as well as those from disadvantaged groups such as lone parents or people with disabilities.

In addition, there will be a public service agreement looking to help give socially-excluded adults access to accommodation or to employment and education opportunities, news which may be embraced by people seeking social work jobs.

Earlier this month, the Improvement and Development Agency launched the first in a series of sessions aimed at helping public sector officials working with third sector bodies such as charities and voluntary organisations on the delivery of public service contracts.
