Welsh member of Charity Commission board appointed

Posted in Charity/Voluntary on the July 17th, 2007

A fifth member of the Charity Commission board, due to take up his role later this summer, has been named by minister for the third sector Phil Hope MP.

Simon Jones has been selected due to his particular specialist knowledge in the Welsh not-for-profit and charities sector.

With strong links in the fields of community regeneration and development, Mr Jones was chief executive of the Wales Co-operative Centre for a decade.

Dame Suzi Leather, chair of the Charity Commission, said: "This is an exciting and challenging time for the Charity Commission, as we take forward our new responsibilities.

She asserted that Wales threw up its own particular challenges and opportunities, with Mr Jones’ experience hoped to aid in making the most of third sector potential in the country.

A number of other representatives from across the country join the commission’s board this summer, tasked with working together to ensure that charities can operate in the best interests of the public, free of the concerns of the commercial sector or government bodies.
