Cities ‘have seen a renaissance’ in the past ten years
The government has stated that English cities have undergone a genuine rebirth in the past ten years, stimulated by unparalleled funding and growth.
Communities and Local Government made the claims in response to a report assessing the performance of different towns by the Institute for Public Policy Research.
It stated that, while more remains to be done to bolster ongoing improvements, initiatives such as the Pathfinder scheme, the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and Urban Regeneration company have all aided in the renaissance of the city.
A spokesperson for the department remarked: "Local communities know what their area needs best and this is why we are devolving more powers to regions and local areas so they are equipped to drive forward greater prosperity and opportunity in their cities."
Meanwhile, a £14 million package has been announced to provide aid to those local authorities dealing with recent flooding with funds to help residents affected by the weather.
