New documentary lauds young volunteers

Posted in Charity/Voluntary on the April 26th, 2007

A documentary showing how volunteering can improve the lives of youngsters is showing on the digital TV station, the Community Channel.

No Limits looks at the experiences of a group of youngsters who are coming to terms with problems and gaining new skills and confidence through volunteering on charity projects.

Two boys, Danny and Ashley, who had become involved with drink and drugs, are revealed to have turned over a new leaf after joining a National Trust community service scheme.

The pair are selected for the Young Heritage Leaders project and head to Snowdonia to learn how to manage conservation tasks.

The story of sisters Arfa and Afshan, who work with disabled youngsters at the Barnardo’s Hamara Family Project, is also shown.

The siblings find that volunteering gives them an opportunity to meet new people while offering assistance if required.

"It’s just something I feel good about. I can’t think of anything better you could do," said Arfa.

The programme is to be screened on Friday April 27th after a first showing last night.

The Community Channel aims to inspire viewers to take action on issues that matter to them, according to its website.
