Commission highlights charities’ achievements
Charity Commission chiefs have published a key report highlighting the work of Britain’s leading good causes.
The charity watchdog’s first summary information returns (SIR) review is designed to draw attention to the aims and achievements of the 5,000 charities in the UK with incomes in excess of £1 million.
Representing just three per cent of all registered good causes in the country, these organisations account for more than 80 per cent of the sector’s total income.
Taking a cross-section of the SIRs submitted to date, the Charity Commission’s review, entitled In Their Own Words, provides examples of the different approaches taken by the leading charitable causes, complete with details of the impact donations have been having.
“The audience for SIRs is an increasingly interested public and charities should bear this in mind when completing them,” said Andrew Hind, chief executive of the Charity Commission.
“Some charities haven’t yet woken up to the challenge of telling the public about the results they’re achieving, but the best clearly speak for themselves, providing inspiration and ideas to other charities completing their SIRs,” he added.
The report is available online on the commission’s homepage.
